Translation grants

1. The call for expressions of interest for a translation grant concerning the translation of an entire work written in Greek into a foreign language is accompanied by an application form which is submitted online.
2. The call is addressed to foreign private and public legal entities, both ‘for-profit’ and ‘not-for-profit’, including but not limited to educational institutions, universities and foreign publishing houses. Such entities will be referred to henceforth as “the Publisher”.
3. The programme funds up to 75% of the total cost of the translation, as this is presented in the budget submitted along with the application. The Committee may review the proposed budget at its discretion, should it deviate significantly from the budgets submitted for the translation and publication of similar works in the same, or a comparable, language. In reaching this decision, the usual translation price per page for the country / language and literary genre may be taken into account, along with any other factors which the Committee may consider to cause the budgeted amount to differ from the amount submitted in the application.

There are three (3) application periods per year. Applicants can submit up to three (3) applications per period.

1. Sample translations enable the promotion of Greek works by raising interest towards the entire work and its publishing in full. 
2. The call for expressions of interest for a translation grant concerning the sample translation of an excerpt from Greek into a foreign language is accompanied by an application form which is submitted online.
3. The call for expressions of interest is addressed to domestic private and public legal entities, both ‘for-profit’ and ‘not-for-profit’, including but not limited to educational institutions, universities and publishing houses, as well as to individuals (natural persons), such as translators or literary agents, provided that they have already acquired a license agreement for the use of this extract by the copyright and property rights holder of the work.
4. The sample translation is uploaded on the website (www.greeklit.gr) with the consent of all the persons mentioned in paragraph 3 above, so as to become accessible to publishers and other interested parties abroad. At the same time, the interested persons mentioned in paragraph 3 above, will be able to approach foreign publishers and raise interest for the entire work’s translation.
5. The sample translation may be up to 20 pages long (1,800 characters per page) for works of fiction and essays of over 100 pages. For poetry or non-fiction up to 100 pages, the submitted sample should cover at least 10% of the total number of pages of the original Greek version, but no more than 20 pages in total.
